Neural technology is the result of the integration of various disciplines from science and engineering, such as neuroscience, physiology, medical sciences, electronics, telecommunications, control, computing, and neural engineering. The aim of neural technology is designing and manufacturing of microelectronic instruments based on the structure and function of the central nervous system for the purpose of rehabilitation, diagnosis, and treatment. Today, the applications of neural technology to rehabilitation and treatment has become widespread and has revolutionized the rehabilitation technology. The products of this technology are very expensive and are considered as essential for maintaining and improving the health of the community. The products of this technology include cardiac neuroprostheses, cochlear implants, respiratory neuroprostheses, brain neuroprostheses, and visual neuroprostheses. This technology is also used to control chronic pain, bladder function, reducing spasticity, treatment of Parkinson's disease, and epilepsy control. Today, neural engineering is also considered as an effective approach to restore movement in subjects with spinal cord injury. To develop the neural technology in Iran and to localize this technology, knowledge-based company, named NeuroTekTronix, with a history of research more than 25 years was established in 2015. Designing and manufacturing of neural prostheses and implantable neurochips are some goals of this company. Now, after 25 years of research and development, researchers have designed and fabricated a motor prosthesis called ParaWalk for standing and walking of people with thoracic spinal cord injury. The system was unveiled by Dr. Sattari, the Vice President of Science and Technology of the Presidency and Dr. Hashemi, Minister of Health, in March 2016, and is now being used in several medical centers.
